Evening GP appointments now available in Waltham Forest
People living in Waltham Forest are now able to make an appointment to see a GP in the evenings on weekdays, as well at weekends.
The new service begins this evening and anyone registered with a GP in the borough is able to book an appointment to see a GP from 6.30pm to 9.30pm by calling the appointments booking line on 020 8519 3999.
Evening appointments are available at a GP practice in Leytonstone, which will provide nearly 20 appointments each evening. The service will run three days a week until March, when it will be extended to five days a week.
The evening GP service is commissioned by NHS Waltham Forest Clinical Commissioning Group (WF CCG) which is responsible for buying healthcare services on behalf of local people.
CCG Chair Dr Anwar Khan said: “We know that extending access to high-quality GP services is important for people living in Waltham Forest.
“Making GP appointments available in the evening will make a big difference to many and, along with appointments at weekends, means Waltham Forest GPs are doing all they can to make sure local people are able to visit their family doctor at a time that suits them best.”
The service is provided by FedNet, which is a federation of local GPs, and is an extension of the successful extended hours GP service which will continue to open at three practices – in Leytonstone, Walthamstow and Chingford – from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
From April, the weekend service will be extended, with one GP hub open from 8am to 8pm every Saturday and Sunday.
