Extended GP opening hours in Waltham Forest
IMPORTANT: There have been further improvements to this service. For more up to date information on GP Extended Hours, please go to ‘Evening and weekend GP appointments now available to Waltham Forest residents’
The development has been made possible by GP practices forming a network, known as the Waltham Forest GP Federated Network (FedNet)
Local people who are registered with a GP are now able to book weekend appointments at three GP practices in Chingford, Walthamstow and Leytonstone, making it easier to see a nurse or GP outside of working hours.
Book a weekend GP or nurse appointment by calling 020 8519 3999 between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday, or 9am to 5pm on Saturday or Sunday.
Dr Anwar Khan, GP and Chair of NHS Waltham Forest CCG says:
“We are pleased to be rolling out this trial programme, which will be especially beneficial for people who are struggling to get to appointments due to work or school commitments. Over the coming months, we will be carefully assessing how well it is working and will be asking people for their feedback. In the future we hope to include evening appointments and monitor the demand for these extra appointments. This is about bringing our local GP services into the 21st century and making sure it’s much easier for people to get the care they need when they want it. We also hope it will reduce some of the pressure on other local health services, such as accident and emergency, urgent care and out of hours services, which people often turn to if they can’t see a family doctor.”
Appointments with doctors and nurses are available. To book, call 020 8519 3999 between 0900 – 1700 on a Saturday or Sunday. You will be asked some simple questions by the receptionist to ensure the service is right for you. The phone number is also included in the NHS 111 Directory of Services.
FedNet was formed in July 2014, after GPs in Waltham Forest made the decision ‘federate’ (work together more closely and share resources) so they can provide more services for local people. Although people stay registered with their own GP practice, they can access some services – such as weekend GP appointments – through other GP practices who are also part of FedNet. The organisation is supported by NHS Waltham Forest Clinical Commissioning group.
